Fact Check: Did Dave Free post an Instagram story about Drake’s ‘Honestly, Nevermind’ album?

On Sunday, June 19th at approximately 4PM EST, a Twitter account (@OnThinlce) posted a series of photos which was purportedly of Dave Free, pgLang co-founder and manager of recording artist Kendrick Lamar @pglang mentioning Drake releasing ‘Honestly, Nevermind’ on the birthday of said recording artist. In the post he also called it “..the worst album of the year”.

An account which is highly likely the authentic profile of Dave Free responded simply with “Fake”. So, did Dave Free post an Instagram story about Drake’s ‘Honestly, Nevermind’ album?

After close analysis of the photo shared, two things suggest to us that this post is doctored or photoshopped. Notice the time stamp. The “h” for hour is separated and even if this was an Andriod device, this would not have the same spacing. Even for Facebook. It is also highly unlikely this user has an older version of Instagram (or Facebook).

Also notice the copy on the bottom. It says “Reply to” instead of “Send Message” which you can try out on your instagram app for yourself. The Instgram username is correct but all the copy looks doctored.

After the reply, the account tweeted: “Narrative shaping is getting out of control. I respect the troll, but at the very least, make me look good if you fake post me.” -@DaveFree
